Teachers in the water
Our beginners classes include a teacher and two assistants in the pool to provide extra reassurance and support for our younger swimmers as they learn.
Friendly, structured swimming lessons for children from around 4 years old, taught by experienced teachers who help nervous beginners grow into confident swimmers.
Paddlers Swim School has helped generations of children build water confidence, develop their swimming technique and enjoy their time in the pool.
Paddlers Swim School has been providing swimming lessons for over 30 years. Many of the children that started as nervous non swimmers and progressed through our learn to swim scheme now swim competitively for local swimming clubs.
Our teachers are all qualified and teach in the water with the non-swimmer classes. This gives children more confidence and makes it easier for teachers to demonstrate, support and guide each swimmer.
Paddlers works in association with Coopers Coborn School, a Specialist Sports College, benefiting from their wealth of experience and sports knowledge.

Many of our teachers have been involved in swimming all their lives, combining experience gained through high-level competition with many years of teaching.

Lessons run during school term times
We maintain a set instructor-to-swimmer ratio to ensure every lesson is safe and of the highest quality.
Please do not pay for a course of lessons without receiving confirmation from Paddlers that a space is available. Once offered a place, you will receive a digital booking form by text message.
We run our own structured awards and distances scheme to celebrate achievements as children develop new skills. Throughout the term, swimmers are tested on their skills and distances, with the opportunity to purchase certificates and badges at the end of each term.

Your child should wear swimwear that they are comfortable and confident in. We will not stop any child from swimming due to their choice of swimwear, unless it is dangerous. When choosing swimwear, please see our recommendations below.
Above the knee tight shorts. Made of a proper swimming material and minimise drag in the water.
A great fit for girls. Fits securely during active movements and minimises drag.
Provides comfortable coverage and a secure fit, reducing distractions during lessons.
Pockets fill with water and inflate, creating drag behind the swimmer, making it harder to swim.
Causes drag. Doesn't keep children warmer indoors, and makes them feel colder once they leave the pool.
Often fit poorly, causing a distraction as children constantly try to adjust them while swimming.
Built-in buoyancy aids assist in the water but create a false sense of natural swimming ability.
Traps water and causes heavy drag. It is best to avoid adding a swim top for indoor lessons.
Good quality, one-piece design. Fits securely, doesn't leak easily, and has no small detachable parts.
Large scuba diving masks or goggles with many detachable pieces. These are bulky and cause a major distraction.
